I recommend Finally Full of Yourself, Unlocking Your Spiritual DNA by Maria Salomão-Schmidt for all the inspiration one can find in it. I read Maria’s book as you peel an onion. After the first layers of all sort of advice to improve oneself, I reached to the core of the book. There, I found one of the most touching stories I read in my life: The loss of a child – Sophia - and the sense of guilt a mother carries. Initially, I bought the book because it was part of a series of self-help books that someone like me, in the middle of a life-crisis, selects to motivate herself; and then, because I wanted to celebrate Maria’s accomplishment. After all, writing a book is like having a baby, and during that process, one goes through all the stages of the pregnancy and the delivering. Finally, I wanted to acknowledge Maria’s effort to spread joy and gratitude despite her traumatic loss and personal challenges. To me, chapter 43 was the most emotional of all because I could feel Maria’s pain and honesty for saying things like: “Doug and I did not take it [Sophia birth] very well. We were expecting another perfectly healthy baby. We had no idea she had Down Syndrome …” Well, life is weird Maria, and your Earthly Angel, “Sophalicious” has taught you/us how to have deeper relationships and to develop many other virtues. Full disclosure, if you can't tell from my last name, Maria is my sister. Had to get that out of the way, as I'm a terrible liar with a large and weighty conscience. Having said that, you should still take this as a bonafide review because we practice realistic tough love in our family, and you better believe I'd give her two stars if this was a mediocre book. I studied architecture and philosophy in college, so I'm armed with many tools for devastating critique.
Luckily, Maria is almost as cogent, witty, and heartfelt a writer as me. Everything Maria jam-packed into this book is authentic energy. Her main goal in this life is to be a roving agent of love, understanding, and fulfillment. This book is her vehicle for reaching as many people as possible, for kickstarting a revolution of self-appreciation in many so that they have the encouragement, the chutzpah to be what they are meant to be. We are all springs of untapped potential, with the ability to make real difference in our lives and the lives of others.
Maybe you've heard this stuff in other "self-help" books before, without concrete steps to begin on that kind of journey. I have too. Maria's book is different. As other reviews note, this is not a "you're special, just think positive and everything is gonna be ok" book. You can't just sit in a chair and materialize positivity - you have to go out and live it. Finally Full of Yourself helps you do that. It is almost like a guidebook to the psyche - it helps you navigate the shoals of your doubts and fears, so that you might analyze them, understand them, and cast them away. These are concrete steps I'm talking about, people! And once you do that, there is no turning back, because realizing how much pent-up positive energy your fears and doubts were blocking will make you want - need - to sow that love throughout the known world. If you doubt these words you need to read the book, to know the story of a beautiful little girl named Sophia, my beloved niece, who in only 13 months on this planet was a catalyst for life-changing love and acceptance.
Maria has lived what she teaches. The rollercoaster of life, the school of hard knocks, whatever you want to call it, Maria knows it. She's navigated it as deftly as our ancestors navigated the seven seas, and she can teach you to do the same. And if you don't take my word for it, look at the 75 other five-star reviews.
I simply couldn't get enough of this book! Maria's direct and extremely helpful style had me turning the pages quickly to devour all the awesome material. So profound was this book for me that I've already started my journal (with the 7 helpers) and I intend to keep up some new habits, particularly the breathing, hydrating and movement ones! I cannot recommend this book more highly! If I read a better book this LIFETIME, I'll surely let you know. Well done, Maria!
The author gives us great advice for unlocking our true selves and living authentically. She presents her information in a down-to-earth engaging manner. Although there is so much information in this book, it never feel tedious because Salomao-Schmidt writes with a light touch. She dispenses her wisdom with easy wit and a bit of humor too. I particularly want to give her kudos for including the debilitating, energy-depleting aspects of racism, sexism, and all the other "isms." And, if you're wondering who Enders, Bridgers, and Firsters are....you'll need to read the book!
Loved this book. So full of light. It really gets you thinking about what you’ve assumed in life and what beliefs you’ve taken on without questioning them. It’s written in a very gentle way that gets you to reassess your life from a spiritual point of view. It starts right with the basics for people who’ve not done much reading in this space, yet it still gives the more advanced seeker beautiful “ah ha” moments. I really enjoyed it!
In this ultimate spiritual self-help book, the author authentically shares her life journey, sense of humor and deep insights into how to change from the herd operating system to the right now operating system which means following your heart, intuition and inner energy. She explains how to turn our stuck points in flow and access our own inner energy patterns and spiritual DNA, create purpose, intention, and magnetize what we want to flow through us and not get stuck. She covers every topic found in other spiritual self-help books and includes journaling and thought exercises to help the reader internalize her message of being in the flow of the energy we really are.
